I’ve lived in Crayfish country all my life [66 years] and I finally got tired of fighting it and just "live with ‘em."
Lots of folks down here [SE Texas Gulf Coast] claim that the following treatment works.
Drop two or three MOTHBALLS down EACH hole and immediately pack the mud "tower" back down into the hole to totally seal it. Remember that each Crayfish may have two or three tunnel openings, so be sure to get all holes while you are at it.
"They say" that the MOTHBALLS change from a solid to a gas which either asphyxiates, or poisons the Crayfish before they can dig out through the mud plugged holes. I don’t know, never tried it. References :
